Katsuki Bakugo (爆ばく豪ごう勝かつ己き, Bakugō Katsuki ?), also nicknamed Kacchan, is a student of Class 1-A at UA Academy who is training to become a hero. He is the Deuteragonist of the series and rival of Izuku Midoriya. Katsuki presented himself as a very impulsive, aggressive and arrogant person, as seen in his way of treating broccoli, whom he constantly physically and psychologically violated, even telling him to kill himself, demonstrating his bastard attitude. He has a Sasuke complex, always wanting to be the best at everything and trying to prove it at all costs; However, even with those traits, he knows how to admit when he has been defeated, as demonstrated in him during the Test Battle, when at the entrance of the academy, Izuku tried to explain to him that his Don One For All came from another person, and Katsuki interpreted that he was making fun of him, so he tried to shut him up by saying that he just ripped his ass off.[3]
Katsuki’s usual fighting expression Katsuki’s usual fighting expression. In battle he tends to be quite bloodthirsty and aggressive, even to the point of turning the word “shine” into a catchphrase. His brutal fighting style is shown in the battle trial, in which he mercilessly assaults Izuku and recklessly destroys everything in the enclosed environment they were in. Despite this, and regardless of his little compassion, he has been recognized as having enormous talent and sharpness to fight, since he not only attacks and destroys, he is also capable of using his Gift to destroy. This being highlighted by Momo Yaoyorozu, the thermostat[4] and All Might himself.[5]
Although he is not the hero with the best character, nor does he have the image of one, he knows and recognizes who his enemies and allies are, since although he is cold and distant with his allies, with his enemies he is immensely aggressive and mocking. Initially he is also very rude and impolite, though as the story progresses his outbursts become less aggressive, usually more and more comical, as he mostly gets angry at the smallest things, like teasing. With this in mind, Katsuki seems to mature slowly, but he is still quite castrous. Although he is aware that he is one of the strongest students in Class 1-A, he has been concerned on many occasions about how Izuku learned from his movements and could surpass him in both intelligence and strength. Katsuki is also immensely ditzy, as he hates the idea of others helping him or having to rely on others to help him in battle. Due to his pride, Katsuki refuses to work together with others, claiming that he can do what he is assigned on his own. His pride has cost him numerous times: he lost the battle trial due to his lack of cooperation with Tenya, was effortlessly defeated by All Might in the end-of-term exam, and only passed once when he finally agreed to work together with Izuku. However, he will repay those who help him, like when he gave Kirishima the money for his broken night vision goggles when he came to help rescue him. Katsuki declares that he wants to fight and win honorably like All Might does. Ironically his inspiration to become a hero was the same as that of Izuku, the All Might symbol of peace. However, his beliefs are different: Katsuki feels that a hero should never stop fighting or give up, regardless of the threat he faces, and that always winning is the mark of a true hero. Also due to his arrogant and cocky behavior, various heroes, civilians, and even villains have commented on his villainous behavior. However Katsuki is unwavering in becoming a hero, having flatly rejected Tomura’s invitation to the Villain Alliance. When he is defeated, he goes into some sort of shock, which has happened several times. And besides this, he doesn’t admit that he surpasses others when the fight ends without him landing the final blow, like when he was fighting Uraraka at the Sports Festival and they decided to call it quits before he finished Ochaco. . As the story has progressed, it is seen that Katsuki’s personality has changed progressively, initially he started out as someone very arrogant and intolerant but little by little he has calmed down his attitude to the point of showing concern for others implicitly, as shown in the provisional hero license exam when he reduces his explosions so as not to harm Denki and Eijiro or have waited for him to return from the battle against the Eight Precepts of Death. He has also shown empathy as in Shoto’s case by eavesdropping on his past.
